How to submit your
article and photos
This page contains a lot of useful information -- you may want to print this
page and refer to it. On this page are:
- Instructions about submitting your LeConte Lodge
experiences for publication.
- Instructions about the LeConte Lodge Alum
Contact List.
- What this site is about.
Submitting your article and photos
Submitting your article and associated graphics is a simple matter -- write
your article, gather your graphics, and e-mail them to me; I'll take care of
posting your material to this web site. However, I do ask that you prepare
and submit your material as follows.
What to say in your article
The article(s) you submit are your creation -- write what you want about
your experiences working at LeConte Lodge. You can be as brief or as
detailed as you wish -- prose or poetry -- big words or little words -- add
photos or not -- it's your creation.
We will not edit your article -- we'll publish it as we receive it --
spelling, grammar, and punctuation are your business.
Please be certain to include the following basic information:
- Your name
- Date(s) you worked at LeConte
How to prepare your article
Please prepare your article using a word processor -- I prefer
Microsoft Word but I can handle most any word processed document. As you
prepare your article, save it in .doc format (or whatever format your word
processor uses). When you are finished, send the article to me as an
attachment to an e-mail message.
Please submit graphics in .jpg format. If you must use
other graphic formats -- bitmap, gif, or some other graphic format -- that's
okay, I should be able to handle the different format -- but -- I prefer .jpg.
Thanks.
Please DO NOT imbed photographs, maps, charts, sketches, or any other
graphics in your document -- send those separately. If you want to
insert a graphic into the body of your article, please put a note in the text.
For example, if you send two photos and a map that you want to be inserted into
your article, put these notes in the article:
( Insert Photo #1 here.)
(Insert Map #1 here.)
(Insert Photo #2 here.)
Then -- send the article, photos, and map to me as attachments to e-mail
messages and I will insert the graphics where you want them.
If you want to prepare your article as an e-mail message and not as a
word processor document, please use only plain text -- don't send e-mail
with rich text or HTML content.
How to submit your article
Please send your material as attachments
to an e-mail message -- that is -- please do not imbed your article and
graphics into an e-mail message.
Please do not send more than two attachments per e-mail message.
As you will see, I use an MSN Hotmail address to collect material for this site.
My experience is that sometimes Hotmail will delete or bounce e-mail messages
with large attachments. So -- please send only two attachments per e-mail.
For example, if you have prepared an article in MS Word and you want to
submit three photos and two maps, you would send three separate e-mail messages.
E-mail #1 would have attached to it the article (MS Word .doc file) and photo
#1; E-mail #2 would have photos #2 and #3 attached; E-mail #3 would have maps #1
and #2 attached -- this way each e-mail message has only two attachments.
My e-mail address
I use an MSN Hotmail address to collect material for this site. I do
this to protect my personal e-mail address from being harvested by spammers.
Also, if I move and change my personal e-mail address, the Hotmail address will
not change.
Submit your material to the following address, all lower case:
lecontejoe at msn dot com
Of course, the actual e-mail address is written all together with no spaces;
replace the word "at" with the @ symbol; and, replace the word "dot" with a .
.
Or, you can click on this link and
your browser should open a pre-addressed e-mail form.
LeConte Lodge Alum Contact List
I assume that former LeConte Lodge staff members would like to be able to
contact other LeConte alumni/alumnae. For this reason, I am willing to
maintain and distribute a contact list with names, addresses, phone numbers, and
e-mail addresses. I plan to maintain this information in a Word document,
sorted alphabetically by name, sorted by current state of residence (so you can
see who lives close to you), and sorted by year(s) you worked at LeConte.
From time to time, I will send the list to everyone whose e-mail address is on
the list.
Please submit to me your name, address, phone number, and e-mail address for
inclusion on this list. If you DO NOT want to be on the contact list, tell
me so and I will not put any of your information on the list, not even your
name. If you want only your e-mail address listed, or only mailing
address, etc., just tell me what of your personal data to include or to exclude
and I will comply with your wishes in preparing the contact list.
What this site is about
This site is exactly what it appears to be -- it's a place where folks who
worked or who now work at LeConte Lodge can share their experiences about
LeConte, the Lodge, other staffers, and guests and where we can, more than
anything, share our love of our mountain. We have NOT established this
site as a means of collecting your personal data so we can spam, phish, or send
porn.
I am Joe Schlatter -- here is a link to my
personal web site. I worked at the Lodge during the summers of 1962
and 1963; I also opened the Lodge and operated it a few times during the winter
for special winter guests. My brother John worked at the Lodge for two
years in the late-1960's.
This web site is John's idea. He and I share the cost of the site;
because I am mainly retired and have the time, I maintain the site.
We look forward to meeting you and sharing your experiences as a member of
the LeConte Lodge community. |
