Items of Interest

This page contains notices and information about items not specifically about LeConte that may be of interest to LeConte Lodge alum.

  • ATBI -- All Taxi Biodiversity Inventory.  A project is underway in the Smokies to document and count EVERY species of plant, animal, critter, bug, fish, slime mold, and any other living thing in the Smokies.  The project combines the work of scientists and volunteers who do not have to be scientists or even have a background in life sciences.  Follow this link to the Discover Life in America website for information on the ATBI.  I volunteered with them, went to one training session, and plan to volunteer for field work as long as the project continues.

  •  Earl Shaffer, 1918 - 2002.  Reportedly the first person to hike the entire Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine, 2,200 miles.  This link is to the Earl Shaffer Foundation.
